ODEP does not have an official list of “stakeholders”. When it was formed (for hips), with NICE and PASA, it was decided that the Panel should have an orthopaedic surgeon as Chair, there should be a representative from the Purchasing and Supply Agency (PASA), a representative from NHS management (usually an orthopaedic surgeon who was also a medical director of a hospital), two members from the British Hip Society (BHS), a representative from Industry and a statistician. Originally ODEP reported to NICE but by 2008 NICE had decided that they no longer had a meaningful relationship with ODEP.
Since it started, PASA, NHSSC, and DHL have been responsible for the Panel’s expenses and indemnity until the present time, where SCCL is now the responsible authority.
The groups with whom ODEP works closely as “stakeholders” includes NJR, ABHI, NEC Software Solutions UK (formerly Northgate Public Services), BHS, The British Association for surgery of the Knee (BASK), the British Elbow and Shoulder Society (BESS) , the British Association of Spinal Surgeons (BASS), the Netherlands Orthopaedic Association (NOV) and the European Federation of Trauma and Orthopaedics (EFORT).
ODEP is also closely aligned with Beyond Compliance and works with GIRFT.
We liaise with most of the national joint registries through our International Co-operation Group, which meets during the annual EFORT congress and at the annual meetings of the International Society of Arthroplasty Registries (ISAR).
Should there ever be cause for complaint from any group who are served by ODEP it would be referred to SCCL for review.
